Agilent HP J3961A Ganymede Software's Chariot 2.2 NT Console - 10
Connections
Chariot provides active end-to-end network performance management,
for a meaningful view of how new applications and hardware will perform
in today's complex networks.
Running as a set of coordinated network programs that simulate the
data traffic of real applications, Chariot can evaluate the performance
of a single device, such as a router, adapter or switch, or it can
measure the end-to-end performance of a complex network.
Chariot is comprised of two components: a console and network performance
endpoints (NPEs). Users create and run tests at the console, which
distributes test instructions to the endpoints. Each endpoint is a
"skinny" network application that understands how to execute test
scripts over different protocols. The console collects results from
the endpoints and generates a report with critical information about
the application -- response time, transaction rates, and throughput.
Chariot's design allows it to run very large tests, whether in a
test lab or between endpoints throughout the network.
Features:
- Chariot saves time and money in production networks
- Avoid downtime by stress testing your network after changing
configurations. Have you ever made changes to your network over
the weekend and returned on Monday to find that your users have
discovered a problem? Network downtime can be expensive. Using
Chariot to stress test your entire network from a single console
makes these unpleasant surprises much less likely.
- Predict the effect of running new applications. Many modern
applications transfer large amounts of data, including high-density
images. Using Chariot, you can simulate the application, measure
response time, and measure the changes to the performance of
other applications in your network. You can anticipate and prevent
problems instead of reacting to them.
- Tune your network instead of buying new equipment. After tuning
your network, how do you measure its performance? Do you struggle
to get the answers from tools that were not designed to measure
end-to-end performance, or, worse, do you assume that it's better?
Chariot gives you the accurate, repeatable measurements that
make it easier to get the most performance out of your network
investment.
- Evaluate the performance you're getting from network service
providers. Services such as frame relay are often provided with
a Committed Information Rate (CIR). By placing endpoints at
both ends of such a service, you can measure the throughput
you are receiving and determine if you are getting the best
value for your investment.
- Identify the source of performance problems. When performance
problems arise it can be difficult to determine where the problem
lies. Chariot allows you to test the network using the application's
network flows, but without the application. This makes it simpler
to isolate the problem areas.
- Chariot provides real value for corporate test labs
- Test the performance and capacity of products you are evaluating.
Chariot can be used to test almost any networking product. Use
it to predict the performance of new WAN technologies, like
switching or frame relay. Because the tests are driven from
the application layer, you get results that accurately predict
the performance of your company's applications over the new
topology.
- Create flexible, easy-to-use test scenarios. You can create
any mix of protocols and network traffic from the set of application
scripts we provide. You can emulate applications such as inquiry,
SAP R/3, Lotus Notes, or Internet HTTP transfers. Once you have
the test scenario you want, it is extremely simple to rerun.
Just load the test and run it again. Save the results from different
runs for comparisons.
- Compare performance of service providers. Use Chariot to compare
the services of providers. Save money by selecting the one that
is most efficient for your traffic mix.
- Run with real multiprotocol support. You can mix protocols
in a test to measure the effect of one protocol on another,
and change a script from one protocol to another with the click
of a mouse.
- Scale your testing. Support hundreds of simultaneous connections
in a test. Each computer running as an endpoint can support
multiple connections running different application scripts,
and can mix protocols. With very little investment in time and
equipment, you can run very robust tests of capacity and throughput.
Two workstations can virtually saturate a LAN segment.
- Install in minutes. It's simple to get started running tests.
PC Week Test Labs reported: "Installation was a snap: We got
endpoints running on our test machines in less than 2 minutes.
Chariot simulates a wide variety of applications such as databases,
eliminating the need to install individual applications to test."
