Detailed Product Description

Dense Wavelength Division Multiplexing (DWDM) communication systems require detailed tests identifying multi-channel center-frequency, power and signal-to-noise ratio measurements that pose a challenge to even full-size laboratory spectrum analyzers. UBI-Walics is a highly compact and modular optical spectrum analyzer optimized for testing DWDM systems down to 25 GHz channel spacing. It locates and tracks all active channels, up to 256 simultaneously, and monitors their critical parameters in quasi-real time. Only a fraction of the size of conventional laboratory instruments, it contains a full range of capabilities in a portable, lightweight platform.

The rugged design of UBI-Walics makes it ideal for both lab and field applications. The fast, two-second cycle scan time locates channel-center frequencies with an absolute accuracy of 2.5 GHz over the 0 ¡C to 40 ¡C temperature range. UBI-Walics offers a selectable optical resolution of 0.1 nm (FWHM) to 1 nm and performs signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) measurements of up to 35 dB at ±50 GHz from the center frequency, ideal for signal level and noise analysis of optically amplified, multi-channel links. A single-mode fiber output, available as an option, converts UBI-Walics into a high-isolation channel filter allowing comprehensive testing, such as bit error rate testing, of a specific DWDM channel.

UBI-Walics offers a large, high-resolution, full-graphics color display providing both multi-channel scrolling tables as well as complete spectral analysis graphics. Specified to meet the challenges of next generation networks, UBI-Walics is the ideal instrument for laboratory or field use in present and future DWDM systems.

When extreme selectivity is required, NetTest also offers WALICS, a high-end laboratory DWDM optical spectrum analyzer, featuring a remarkable 2.5 GHz (20 pm) spectral resolution suitable for channel spacing down to 12.5 GHz (0.1nm).
